Overview

A construction fleet dispatcher coordinates the movement of construction crews, equipment, and materials to and from job sites, ensuring efficient and timely project completion. They manage logistics, communicate with field personnel, and handle various operational tasks to support construction activities. 

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling and Dispatching:

Assigning construction crews, equipment, and vehicles to specific locations based on project needs, availability, and skillsets. 

  • Communication:

Acting as a central point of contact for all stakeholders, including field crews, project managers, and subcontractors, relaying information, updates, and instructions. 

  • Route Planning:

Optimizing travel routes for construction crews to minimize travel time and maximize productivity. 

  • Equipment Coordination:

Arranging for the delivery and pickup of construction equipment and machinery to and from job sites. 

  • Material Procurement:

Coordinating the ordering and delivery of construction materials needed for projects. 

  • Compliance:

Ensuring compliance with transportation regulations and company safety policies. 

  • Problem-Solving:

Addressing any issues or challenges that arise during operations, such as equipment malfunctions, traffic delays, or material shortages. 

  • Record Keeping:

Maintaining accurate records of dispatched calls, driver routes, delivery times, and other relevant information. 

  • Communication with Drivers:

Maintaining regular communication with drivers, providing updates on routes, delays, or any changes in schedule. 

  • Equipment Management:

Monitoring equipment locations and utilization to ensure efficient resource allocation. 

  • Maintenance Scheduling:

Coordinating equipment repairs and maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure operational readiness. 

  • Vendor Coordination:

Working with external haulers and vendors for scheduling and logistics as needed. 

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using dispatching software and communication tools.
  • Knowledge of transportation regulations and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Experience in construction or related industries is often preferred.
